"The birth of Urdu language was aimed at bringing people from different faiths and religions together and in harmony", he said and added, "What this beautiful language has done for National Integration, communal harmony and freedom struggle is commendable."
Dr. RK Deore was speaking at JAT Arts, Science & Commerce College for Women in Malegaon while inaugurating the All Maharashtra Urdu elocution competition today morning.
The competition which is part of the Republic Day celebrations is named after freedom fighter and founder of the JAT Complex Alhaj Haroon Ahmed Ansari.
To prove his points, Dr. Deore elaborated at length the historical accounts of how the language took the birth in India and how Muslims and Hindus together effectively used it to create a harmonious atmosphere for the people in India.
"Amir Khusroo was a Muslim. However, he regarded Urdu and Hindi as sisters. To strengthen the tie between the two languages, and the people speaking these languages in-turn, he described virtues and traditions relating to the popular Hindu festivals like Holi and Deewali in his poetry and dohe with great emphasis."
"Likewise there was Sayyad Qutub Shah", Dr. Deore continued, "He was also a Muslim. But he used his poetry to strengthen the ties between the people from different faiths."
"At the same time", he added, "We must not forget that there were also the people like Munshi Premchand, Anand Narayan Mulla, Chakbast and Firaq Gorakhpuri who despite being Hindus remarkably and wonderfully used the Urdu language that undoubtedly helped in bringing people from other faiths closer."
Commending the role Urdu played during the freedom struggle, Dr. Deore said, "Inquilab Zindabad was a slogan raised by Hasrat Mohani – a well known freedom fighter and Muslim poet. But the slogan had such a power and appeal that it found itself on the lips of everyone in the country."
Meanwhile, the 48 participants who came from various places of Maharashtra including Dhule, Nasik, Malegaon, Nanded, Mumbai, Jalgaon, Bhusawal, Beed and Pune wonderfully exhibited their oratory skills. The topics they were given included Qaumi Yak Jehti aur Media, Shamil mera lahu bhi bahare chaman mai hai and Abhi to chand neqabei hi utri hain chehro se.
While the first topic was devoted to role of media in National Integration, the second was to describe the role of Muslims specially Alhaj Haroon Ahmed Ansari in the freedom struggle. The third topic was included to expose the government's inability in dealing with the findings of various commissions and reports of investigating agencies relating to the national security.
The entire event was wonderfully organised by Dr. Fehmeeda Haroon Ansari, Prof. Salma Ansari and Prof. Tahera Tasneem.
