Today, members of the House of Representatives will consider an
emergency supplemental bill to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan,
titled H.R. 2642, the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2008. Members
will vote on three amendments to this bill.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) urges its
supporters to call their Member of Congress in the House of
Representatives right and ask them to vote "Yes" on amendments two and
three.

The first amendment provides funding for on-going operations in Iraq
and Afghanistan. The second amendment sets a new policy for the US in
Iraq by: 1) Establishing a December 2009 withdrawal date for US
troops; 2) Requiring Congressional authorization for any agreement
between the United States and the Government of Iraq that commits U.S.
forces in Iraq; 3) prohibits torture and the establishment of
permanent US military bases in Iraq. The third amendment includes $675
million to address the refugee crisis in Iraq and elsewhere. This is a
$454 million increase above President Bush's request.

Call the Capitol Switchboard number at (202) 225-3121 and ask to speak
to your Representative. If you do not know who represents you, you can
look up your Member of Congress in the House of Representatives by
entering your zip code on this website:

Talking Points on Iraqi Refugees:

•There would be no Iraqi refugee crisis if the United States and
coalition forces had not invaded Iraq.

•The United States must shoulder more of the burden of this refugee
crisis that we helped create.

•Our nation must assist Iraqi refugees in neighboring countries as
well those who are internally displaced within Iraq.

•Iraqi refugees in neighboring countries and those internally
displaced in Iraq are an increasingly vulnerable population.

•According to international relief organizations many families are
running out of savings and taking increasingly desperate measures to
survive.

•The growing refugee and internally displaced population will only add
to regional instability.
