[kanoshia] Caution Re: Solicitation from Hidaya Foundation/Waleed Baloch - "The Most Excellent Sadaqah (Charity) and Help an Orphan Child Receive an Education"

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatulah wa barakatuh,
Dear Moderator and brothers and sisters al-Islam,
I have just received another solicitation from Waleed Baloch for donation funds.
Despite the first caution I sent to all of you and c.c copy to Waleed Baloch on 17th March 2007, he (Waleed Baloch) did not clarify, defend or provide evidence to the contrary concerning his "foundation's" postion. Instead, he blatantly continues to solicit for funds via Muslim yahoogroups.
Based on this, all of us must be diligent and be extremely cautious before donating to his "Hidaya Foundation" and for that matter to any charity organization by checking with the BBB National Charities Information Bureau. If the organization claims to be a U.S.-based charity, ask it for a copy of its IRS Form 990, the financial report filed with federal and state governments. You also can check out the organization by contacting your state government's charity registration office (usually a division of the state's attorney general's office), visiting (if a national charity), or if it is a local charity, visiting to contact the Better Business Bureau in your area.
Please read the information provided below about Waleed Baloch's "Hidaya Foundation", inshaAllah.
Wa Assalamu alaikum
Your brother,
F. Hassan M.D.

BBB Wise Giving Alliance Comment (Nondisclosure)

Despite written BBB Wise Giving Alliance requests in the past year, this organization either has not responded to Alliance requests for information or has declined to be evaluated in relation to the Alliance's Standards for Charity Accountability. While participation in the Alliance's charity review efforts is voluntary, the Alliance believes that this lack of cooperation may demonstrate a lack of commitment to transparency and accountability.

The BBB Wise Giving Alliance reports on national charities and determines if they meet 20 voluntary standards on matters such as charity finances, appeals, and governance. Without the requested information, it cannot verify if the charity meets these standards. The Alliance does not evaluate the worthiness of the charitable program.
Check out the organization with the local charity registration office (usually a division of the state attorney general's office) and with your Better Business Bureau.
The BBB Wise Giving Alliance offers guidance to donors on making informed giving decisions through their charity evaluations. Don't assume the charity is legitimate because of an impressive looking Web site that mentions. BBB reports provide information on over 2.5 million organizations. It's a good idea to check before you invest or give.
If you believe you have been victimized by a donation scam, here are some links that can provide assistance: FBI (; the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) (, and your state's office of the attorney general. For assistance with Identify Theft issues, click here:
Or wish to inquire or complain about a charity

Inquiries from the public help the BBB Wise Giving Alliance identify which national charities will be the subject of an evaluative report. (National charities can also request to be evaluated at their own initiative.) Click above if you would like to ask us about a charity you don't see listed in our index of reports or if you would like some additional information about any charity.

If you have a complaint about a charitable organization we will forward your filing to the organization and request that appropriate action be taken. Concerns about charity managment, or other issues relevant to our standards will be reviewed and when appropriate included in our written reports. If, for any reason, you are concerned about anonymity, you can:
  1. check the box to be anonymous, and your name and address will not be shared with the charity, or
  2. write via regular mail at:
